The Palio of Casole d'Elsa is a minor version of the great event of Siena. It takes place around the old town of Casole d'Elsa, every year the second Sunday of July. As the Siena Palio, this is a bareback horserace which is made more difficult for riders and horses as Casole is built on a hill. The event is exciting and colourful as preceeded by a pageant in medieval costume.
