Two Bedroom House in Historic Centre Volterra

Selva is in a wonderful position within the walls of the ancient Tuscan town of Volterra yet boasts a large garden where a raised swimming pool has been added, and a coveted parking space. The house is simply fitted and furnished. The real highlight is being able to explore the beautiful town on foot, yet retreat back to your own garden and pool to relax.

The house which main part dates back to medieval times, is on two floors and simply furnished. The ground floor consists of an open plan living area with original low vaulted brick ceiling, with a simple kitchen corner, dining table and chairs, settee and armchair and opens directly onto the garden. Also on this floor is a shower room. Stairs lead to the first floor where there is a twin bedroom and a double bedroom both retaining original beamed ceilings.

The walled garden is large (900 sqm) and is shaded by mature trees. It has a lawn, shrubs and gravel patio areas. Table, chairs and barbecue are provided for dining al fresco and a small round raised swimming pool (8m diameter) has been added, a great bonus for cooling off in the summer months. In a nearby completely separate house lives a caretaker who tends to the pool.

Although in the historic centre of Volterra, apartment Selva also has its own parking area in the grounds, however discovering the delights of this beautiful town can all be easily done on foot. The centre is just a few minutes’ walk away and there are wealth of shops, restaurants and facilities available. Volterra itself has Etruscan origins and is one of the oldest cities in Italy. A really beautiful town set on the hill and surrounded by stunning unique countryside with rolling clay hills and valleys. There is so much to do and see here. The world famous Etruscan museum, the amphitheatre, the cathedral and the winding lanes and alleys house a wealth of lovely local restaurants. There are many craft shops too, Volterra is well known for its alabaster and many beautiful products are available.

Especially in the summer months the town hosts many wonderful festivals, concerts and fairs. The most famous of all being the Medieval festival held in August, a full blown affair all in costume with flag throwers, drummers, medieval food, wine, arts and crafts. In fact at the rear of apartment Selva is a park where the towns drummers often congregate and evocative drumbeats can sometimes be heard from the house and garden at practice times. Selva apartment is very simply fitted and furnished. The real beauty is being able to explore the town of Volterra on foot whilst being able to enjoy the houses’ garden and swimming pool and having your own private parking space. Once you can tear yourself away, Volterra is situated in the heart of the countryside yet many of Tuscany’s other sights are easily reached. San Gimignano is just half an hour away, and Florence and Siena are lovely days out. The Tuscan coast is only about 45 minutes drive away, if a day by the sea entices you.
