Pistoia area

The Pistoia area lies to the west of Florence has many interesting places to visit. Pistoia itself has a pretty historic centre and is famous for its Pistoia Blues music festival held in the summer. The countryside above the town leads into the mountains where the locals go to ski in the winter and to enjoy the cooler temperatures in the hot summer months. Close to Pistoia is the bustling spa town of Montecatini Terme and a funicular can take you up to Montecatini Alto, the pretty original old town on the hill which is very picturesque and enjoys wide views over the valley. Close by is also the villa of Collodi is also a nice trip out, especially if you have children, as here is the park of Pinocchio created in honour of the ‘inventor’ of the famous puppet.
