Colle Val d' Elsa

Colle di val d’Elsa is a pretty little town strategically placed between Florence and Siena, Therefore a superb base from which to explore the Tuscany region and there are many superb villas and apartments available to rent near Colle di Val d’Elsa. Lesser known than nearby San Gimignano it is never the less an interesting town to visit. The original town on the hill has a beautiful medieval quarter once a fortified town. The original inner and outer ‘castle’ gates are still visible and it’s a joy to wander the cobbled streets lined with age old ‘palazzi’ buildings. Famous as the birthplace of the architect Arnolfo di Cambio, the town expanded into the valley below and became very well known for its crystal production. In fact there are many shops selling lovely crystal glasses and ornaments all made locally by skilled craftsmen.
