Siena

Siena is sincerely one of the most beautiful towns in Tuscany and home to the famous shell shaped square the ‘Piazza del Campo’ surrounded by beautiful buildings and watched over by the high and majestic tower ‘Torre del Mangia and the Palazzo Pubblico building which also houses a wonderful museum and many famous frescoes. The town is home to the ‘Pailo’ horse race, a unique historic event taken very seriously by the Sienese. The ‘Duomo’ cathedral is very distinct being of black and white stone, and frescoed by famous artists such as Donatello. Music plays a large part in Siena’s history too. The tiny city houses the famous ‘Chigiana’ music academy, and in the old fortress is the more recent Jazz school as well as the ‘Enoteca’ a very interesting exhibition of the history of wine making and a prized wine collection. Siena has a rich and ancient history and every corner of the town houses a beautiful church or pretty square where lovely classical concerts are usually held in July and August.
