The Chianti area most definitely best known for its production of the world famous Chianti wines. The heart of the Chianti area is the Chianti Classico situated between the beautiful art cities of Florence and Siena with miles upon miles of beautiful countryside filled with leafy vineyards, only interrupted by gorgeous hilltop villages. Large private villas with pool and other luxury accommodation make great bases for a lovely holiday. A real joy to leisurely explore by car and there plenty of vineyards to visit. Most sell wine and olive oil directly and many offer tours of the wineries and local tastings. The area is also well known for its local ceramic production and there are many pottery shops in the little Chianti towns.
